Minimum Qualifications for Approval of
Competent First Aid Auditors and Training Institutions for Working at Height (July
2026)
1. FIRST AID AUDITORS
a) A degree in Medicine, Nursing
or Clinical medicine with a valid Practicing License issued by the relevant
regulatory body
a. OR
A diploma in Nursing or
Clinical Medicine with a valid Practicing License issued by the relevant regulatory body
OR
A minimum of O-Level
Certificate and Certificate/Diploma in Emergency Medical Technician lasting at
least 6 months (from a recognized institution)
b)
Must have undertaken a First aid Auditors Proficiency
certificate course from the OSH Institute (Kenya)
c)
Proven Basic Computer skills;
d) Demonstrate knowledge and
ability to conduct First Aid audits, with a minimum of five (5) years of proven
practical experience in the field of First Aid at the workplace.
2. TRAINING INSTITUTIONS FOR WORKING AT
HEIGHT
a)
Institution
should be registered under the Companies /Business names Act
b)
Workplace
Registration Certificate under OSHA, 2007;
c)
Institution
should have a suitable office;
d)
Should
have a Manager /Chief Trainer who is an employee of the Institution;
e)
Institution
should have the necessary training equipment for Working at Height/or should
have a written contract with an institution that have necessary training
equipment for Working at Height
f)
Should
have at least three trainers who have a signed contract of engagement with the
organization with the following minimum qualifications: -
i.
Atleast
two trainers should have undertaken a Working at Height (Level 1 & 2) Course
from the OSH Institute
(Kenya) or
any other recognized institution
ii.
Atleast
one trainer should have undertaken a Working at Height (Level 3 & TOT) Course
from the OSH institute
(Kenya) or
any other recognized institution

Workers Medically Examined
Trained Workers
Registered Active Approved Persons
Plants Examined

The State Department of Labour and skills Development carries out health and safety services through the Directorate of Occupational Safety & Health Services (DOSHS). The Department has its Headquarters in Industrial Area, safety house and has regional offices in twenty nine (29) counties. These services are carried out to ensure that every workplace isfree of any hazards, and complies to laid down standards to assure safety of employees. Some of these services include but are not limited to Registration of workplaces, Registration of plant, Registration of Approved persons and institutions, workplace inspection & audits, Examination & testing of plants, Accident investigation & WIBA processing.
